5 Tips for Increasing Your Facebook Fan Base

Tips to Increasing Facebook like'sIn a world that is taken over by social media and with over 8,000,000 million people signed up to Facebook, not only are cyber social butterflies taking to the most visited site on the internet (after Google) to connect with friends, family and coworkers, but businesses across the globe are also jumping on the Facebook bandwagon to build their brand and to drive business growth.

If you are trying to do the same for your business, here area few tips on how you can create and maintain an expansive fan base on Facebook:

Tip #1: Be real. Of course, the point of building your business’s presence on Facebook is to gain followers who will in turn gain you more money when they use the product or services you are offering. However, if you approach this method of marketing in a spam-y way where you are just trying to sell people something, you will do nothing but create your own demise.

Be worth knowing by being yourself and not being your business. Your fans want to connect with people via social networks to facilitate real connections through common interests. If your page is solely about sales and not about being a real person don’t be surprised if you get unfriended, blocked or even reported.

Tip #2: Connect and engage. To build lasting relationships with potential customers, it is crucial to create a platform for meaningful conversation so that you can interact with your fans. When you see people “liking” and commenting on the material you post, get to know your fans by starting a discussion and replying to them in a timely manner so that they feel valued. Agree or disagree with their point, ask a question or give your opinion. Be sure to learn how your Facebook audience is interacting with your page so that you can make necessary adjustments to increase engagement.

When you make a new friend get personal and send them a thank you message. Keep in touch by posting on their walls and sending out messages to update page members of the latest in company news.

Tip #3: Post interesting content. When advertising and creating posts on your business page, make sure you switch it up from time to time. If you post the same material people will get bored and lose interest. Again, don’t focus solely on selling and try to let your own personality shine through. As long as the material you are sharing is interesting and of use to your members (events, pictures, trends, specials, articles, contests, polls, etc.) people will continue to follow your page and even suggest it to their friends. Update your page regularly so that each time your fans sign onto their accounts, they are inundated with your information right there on their home screen and they won’t be able to help but to think of the name of your business whenever they need your product or service.

Tip #4: Be active in the Facebook community. To start new friendships, look out for trending topics and groups to jointhat are relevant to what you do and that reflect the goal of your business. To build your credibility in your industry, strike up relationships with related companies by commenting on their pages. Fans of those pages or members of groups to which you belong (who are likely the target audience you’re trying to obtain) will see your comment and be intrigued to join your network. When you submit a friend request to that person they are more inclined to accept since they know you already from the group. Another benefit here is that when someone adds you as a friend, it will show up on their mini-feed so that their friends will see and be encouraged to check you out as well.

Tip #5: Promote your company. Although you mustn’t spam your page members, when updating your statuses, be sure to throw in special promotional offers every once in a while. This will be an incentive to be a loyal customer, and in turn will generate a positive effect on your business. By using Facebook’s ad feature, you are able to make your own ads that are geared exactly towards your target market based on a budget you create. You can also run sponsored stories that are set up to be run on Facebook when friends are talking to friends about your business.
